Shell India, Govt Partner to Train Youth in EV Tech for Green Future

  • DGT and Shell India launched a Green Skills and EV training programme for youth across key states.
  • Offers EV technician courses, green skills modules, and co-branded certification with placement support.
  • Sets up EV skill labs in select institutes for hands-on, industry-aligned training.

The Directorate General of Training (DGT) in MSDE has launched a training program on Electric Vehicles (EVs) and green energy, in collaboration with Shell India, to prepare India's youth with future-ready skills linked to the country's net-zero goals and increasing EVs and energy transition solution adoption.

The Green Skills and EV Training Programme will be delivered through a selection of National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs) and Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka. The curriculum, developed in partnership with Shell, Edunet Foundation, and DGT will include EV systems, diagnostics, battery technologies, digital tools, and health/safety practices.

Mansi Madan Tripathy Chairperson, of Shell Group of Companies in India & Senior Vice President, Shell Lubricants, Asia-Pacific stated, "Through our collaboration with DGT and Edunet Foundation, we are providing students with practical and future-ready expertise in green energy and electric mobility. This initiative empowers young people to thrive in an evolving energy landscape and contribute towards India’s net-zero ambitions".

In the first phase, participants will have a 240-hour advanced EV technician course on offer at four NSTIs, a 90-hour job-focused EV skills course at 12 ITIs with Shell-backed labs, and a 50-hour introductory green skills programme at other ITIs. The programme will also have over 250 instructors trained through a Training of Trainers (ToT) programme, with participants receiving Co-Branded certificates and structured placement support.

Some selected institutes will run specialised EV skills labs on campus to ensure that participants are better equipped to continue their careers and obtain real-life knowledge-based skills. Each institute will also arrange for practical, hands-on training which correlates with industry qualifications.

Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge), MSDE and Minister of State for Education said, "Our collaboration with Shell India reflects the government’s deeper commitment to aligning skilling with sustainability. Green energy, electric mobility, and the broader climate transition are not just environmental imperatives -- they represent a generational opportunity for India to lead through innovation, talent, and enterprise".

"This initiative is part of our larger vision to create a workforce that is not only job-ready but climate-ready. We are equipping young Indians with the skills to shape -- and not just participate in -- the global green economy," he added.
