US President Donald Trump unveiled an extensive higher education reform plan for American higher education, vowing to remove what he terms “Woke, Socialist, and Anti-American Ideology” from college campuses and reinstate merit-based principles. The announcement was issued via a post on his social media site, Truth Social.
“Throughout most of our History, America's Colleges and Universities have been a Great Strategic Asset of the United States. Tragically, however, much of Higher Education has lost its way, and is now corrupting our Youth and Society with WOKE, SOCIALIST, and ANTI-AMERICAN Ideology,” Trump wrote. He stated that his administration is acting "QUICKLY" to implement federal laws targeting discrimination and to steer institutions back to the core values of merit and diligence.
Trump presented a structure for universities ready to work together, highlighting equality and the safeguarding of civil rights. “To those Universities that continue to illegally discriminate based on Race or Sex, we will continue our current efforts to swiftly and forcefully enforce Federal Law. But for those Institutions that want to quickly return to the pursuit of Truth and Achievement, they are invited to enter into a forward-looking Agreement with the Federal Government,” he said.

The President emphasized that adhering institutions should maintain rigorous academic standards, safeguard free expression, guarantee affordability for students, uphold institutional impartiality, and limit foreign impact on university funding. Trump claimed that these reforms would foster talent, encourage a culture of success, and instill “a Love of Country,” allowing students to pursue lives marked by success and satisfaction
“Our Nation's Great Institutions will once again prioritize Merit and Hard Work before ‘group identity,’ resulting in tremendous new Research and Opportunity to benefit all Americans,” He stated, promising that American universities will recover their position in developing future leaders while complying with federal regulations.
The statement represents a considerable education policy initiative before 2025 election cycle, indicating the administration's goal to transform the ideological framework of US higher education.
