The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has introduced two new micro-credential programs developed in collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, the German agency dedicated to international cooperation for sustainable development.

The inauguration event was attended by Prof. Peter Scott, President and CEO of the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), Prof. Uma Kanjilal, Vice Chancellor of IGNOU, and senior representatives from GIZ.

The recently launched courses - “Unpacking AI: Practical Foundations for Non-Tech Students” and “Unpacking Data: Practical Foundations for Non-Tech Students” have been collaboratively developed to provide students with fundamental digital skills and awareness of data-driven analysis. The programs are aimed at people with no previous technical expertise, such as young individuals, employed adults, and those pursuing continuous education.

According to the university, both courses will be available on the SWAYAM platform from January 2026. The micro-credentials are designed to enhance understanding of important digital concepts, commonly utilized tools, and practical applications that are becoming vital across various sectors.

During the event, Prof. Uma Kanjilal mentioned that these new initiatives reflect IGNOU’s commitment to providing adaptable and future-oriented educational opportunities. She highlighted that the partnership provides international knowledge that enhances the university’s aim of promoting capacity development in new technology areas.
