IISc, IIT Gandhinagar Partner for Research, Exchange

  • IISc and IIT Gandhinagar sign MoU to promote research collaborations.
  • Students can transfer to IISc for MTech after the third year of BTech.
  • Partnership provides access to labs, workshops, and multiple research specialisations.

The Indian Institute of Science and the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar have established a Memorandum of Understanding to promote academic and research partnerships. This collaboration will enable students and researchers from both institutions to engage in collaborative research initiatives in shared fields of interest, alongside workshops and access to infrastructure and laboratory facilities at each institution.

This will also promote student transfers from IITGN to IISc for academic and research initiatives. In addition to this, it will allow students who finished their third year BTech at IITGN to directly enter IISc for their Master's degree after a single selection process. Students fulfilling their course requirements will be awarded their BTech and MTech degrees from IITGN and IISc, respectively.

Prof G Rangarajan, Director, IISc, said, "We are excited to embark on this innovative partnership with IIT Gandhinagar, which will enable BTech students to seamlessly transition to MTech and PhD programmes after their third year of undergraduate studies. IISc offers more than two dozen specialisations in MTech programmes, and a majority of our research and course programmes are open for direct admission to graduates from Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs)."

Prof Rajat Moona, Director, IITGN, said"As an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Science, this collaboration holds a special personal significance for me, as it represents an important institutional step forward for both IIT Gandhinagar and IISc. IITGN has always been a student-first institute – in our actions, our culture, and our philosophy – and this partnership reflects yet another way in which we prioritize our students’ growth, welfare, and long-term success."
