IIT Madras Introduces B.S. Chemistry and M.Tech EV for 2025-26

  • IIT Madras launches new UG and PG programs for 2025–26 in emerging fields like EVs, AI, and biomedical engineering.
  • The courses offer interdisciplinary, industry-aligned curricula with dual degree options.
  • IIT Madras introduces special admission schemes to support talented students in arts, culture, and sports.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has launched various new undergraduate and postgraduate programs for the 2025-26 academic year, designed to prepare students with advanced skills for leadership positions in academia and industry.

The recently introduced programs feature a B.S. in Chemistry, admitting students via the IISER Aptitude Test, and an M.Tech in Electric Vehicles, with admission determined by GATE scores. Moreover, two new B.Tech programs have been launched under the fields of Applied Mechanics and Biomedical Engineering, with entry through JEE. These programs are the B.Tech in Computational Engineering and Mechanics (CEM) and the B.Tech in Instrumentation and Biomedical Engineering (iBME).

Prof. Prathap Haridoss, Dean (Academic Courses), IIT Madras said, “These new courses have been introduced keeping in mind the needs of both industry as well as academia and the aspirations of students.”

IIT Madras Bachelor of Science (Chemistry): The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry is a four-year undergraduate program that offers the possibility to pursue a Master of Science in Chemistry. Created to establish a solid base in Chemistry and associated disciplines, the program merges intense theoretical teaching with practical lab experience. It equips students for various career options in research, industry, and academia.

IIT Madras M.Tech in Electric Vehicles: The M.Tech in Electric Vehicles is a multidisciplinary, industry-focused program aimed at preparing graduates for leadership positions in tackling intricate real-world issues in both academia and the automotive industry. The curriculum employs an interdisciplinary method with courses aligned to industry standards, practical lab sessions, internships, and robust industry engagement, guaranteeing that graduates are adequately equipped for the changing mobility environment.

IIT Madras BTech in Computational Engineering and Mechanics (CEM): This distinctive Programme will equip students for upcoming digital engineering professions, where physical systems merge with computational and Artificial Intelligence. It combines a foundation in traditional engineering principles with contemporary computational technologies, equipping graduates to tackle the intricate engineering problems of the future.

IIT Madras BTech in Biomedical and Instrumentation Engineering (BIE): Completers of this program will be prepared to create ethically responsible, clinically regulated solutions for worldwide healthcare issues. The program equips them for leadership and entrepreneurial positions in medical devices, rehabilitation technologies, and AI-enabled healthcare, while fostering innovation in diagnostics and therapies. Students have the option to pursue a five-year Dual Degree (B.Tech. + M.Tech) via Interdisciplinary Dual Degree (IDDD) Programmes, which include three organized by the Department: Computational Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Complex Systems & Dynamics.

IIT Madras FACE and Sports Excellence Enrollment (SEA): IIT Madras has launched the Fine Arts and Culture Excellence (FACE) admission process for the 2025-26 academic year, allowing applications via a specific portal (ugadmissions.iitm.ac.in/face/) rather than JoSAA. The Sports Excellence Admission (SEA) program, initiated in 2024-25, honors students who have excelled significantly in sports.

In both FACE and SEA, two seats are allocated for each programme in all B.Tech and B.S. programmes: one is gender-neutral while the other is exclusively for female applicants.
