Out of the many higher education streams, MBA is one program that has always remained in-demand in India. The latest India Skill Report states that MBA degree which is the second most employable course in the country still can’t guarantee a seamless entry into the corporate realm. According to the report, only 46.59 % students with an MBA degree are employable or have the necessary skills required to get hired. Many experts believe that the increasing number of MBA institutions that offer sub-par quality of education has been a major concern for the development of MBA education in the country. That coupled with the ever-increasing cost of education means that MBA education is facing a major problem when it comes to ensuring good return on investment to its learners. And as a result, over the last decade, there has been a rise in the number of Indian students who aspire to pursue their MBA abroad.
Acknowledging this scenario, many b-schools in the country are working on a major revamp in their MBA curriculums and in 2021, there has been a 28 percent increase in the number of MBA aspirants who want to study in business schools. This shows the increasing popularity of MBA programs in India. Matt Haze bush, who holds the office of Director at Research Analysis and Communications, GMAC stated that the preference of Indian citizens to go abroad to pursue their higher education has declined in 2021 and these students are increasingly considering business school options that are closer to their home. And apart from the travel hazards caused by the pandemic, Hazen bush opines that the increasing quality of Indian b-schools is also a primary catalyst behind this shift.
Owing to the increasing adoption of student-centric and outcome-based teaching pedagogies, many of the top-notch business education institutions in the country are becoming attractive options for aspiring Indian students. However, there is still a visible difference between the quality of MBA education imparted in India and the career potential of students can vary depending on the institutions they choose. Acknowledging this scenario, Higher Education Review’s “Top 100 Beyond IIMs: B School Survey 2022” is an effort to bring awareness to the students looking to pursue management education in India.
