NBEMS Launches Free Online AI Course for Medical Professionals

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) rolled out an online program in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Medical Education for postgraduate doctors and faculties, among others. Enrolment is open for all with no fee attached.

The program unfolding over six months entails 20 interactive modules conducted through live online sessions focusing on the same areas, i.e., clinical applicability, ethics, patient safety, and accountability. The participants need not possess any technical or programming skills beforehand.

The official NBEMS notification carries detailed curriculum information along with module-wise breakdown. The sessions will be taken by faculty from prestigious institutions globally which include the Mayo Clinic, Harvard University, University of Oxford, IISc Bengaluru, IIM Lucknow, and other renowned organizations.

The eligibility criteria are current NBEMS trainees, students who graduated in 2020 and later, staff from NBEMS-accredited departments, and other healthcare professionals.

Attendance is a must for the live sessions and the minimum requirement is 75%. The participants will be marked present at the beginning and end of the class. To get the digital certificate of course completion, a participant must pass the online assessment module.

The class schedules will be posted on the website of the NBEMS. The link will allow participants to enter the sessions, and it will be active 30 minutes before and remain open for 30 minutes after the start of the session.

A brief feedback survey at the end of each session will serve as attendance confirmation. This course will enable the participants to comprehend the concepts of AI in the medical field, assess the AI tools for clinical efficacy and safety, and eventually come up with a person-centred decision-making where AI outputs are integrated.

Besides that, it also talks about the ethical, legal, privacy, and cybersecurity issues connected with the use of AI in healthcare and it prepares the medical professionals to act as experts in multidisciplinary AI teams in a way that guarantees professionalism, accountability, and transparency in AI-assisted medical education, research, and clinical practice.
