AICTE, OpenAI Partner to Transform AI Learning in India
- AICTE and OpenAI will give 1,50,000 free ChatGPT Go licenses to students and faculty in government institutions.
- The Education Ministry will provide ChatGPT access to government school teachers from Classes 1 to 12.
- OpenAI has partnered with IIT Madras, investing $500,000 in AI research for education.
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has partnered with OpenAI to provide 1,50,000 free ChatGPT Go licenses for six months.
These licenses will be provided to learners and faculty across AICTE-affiliated government institutions representing a tremendous leap forward in improving AI-centered education, job readiness, and digital literacy in India.
At the same time, the Ministry of Education is starting its own initiative with OpenAI to grant ChatGPT to educators in government schools for Classes 1 to 12 to widen the relationship with artificial intelligence in teaching practice.
While highlighting the potential significance of the initiative, AICTE Chairman Prof. T.G. Sitharam, observed that artificial intelligence is not only improving technology but also changing the entire technical workforce of India. He indicated that AICTE is embedding AI into all academic disciplines with hands-on training and real-life experiences.
Sitharam thanked OpenAI for improving the rapid access to AI education, especially alongside already available computational resources, and hoped those steps would ensure its growth for a future technically-prepared ecosystem.

In an effort to expedite AI initiatives in India, OpenAI partnered with IIT Madras. OpenAI committed to a $500,000 (about ₹4.41 crore) commitment to encourage a wide-ranging research agenda on AI's impacts on education.
In the coming six months, OpenAI plans to issue almost five hundred thousand ChatGPT licenses via multiple partnerships, backed by focused training initiatives for students and educators to guarantee substantial integration of the technology.
Raghav Gupta, who leads Education for India & Asia-Pacific at OpenAI, characterized India as a key ally in AI-enhanced education. He conveyed hope for collaborating with schools, universities, and governmental organizations, highlighting that AI possesses great potential to improve educational results and establish India as a worldwide leader in AI-driven learning.
