DU Rolls Out Guidelines for UG Multiple Entry-Exit Scheme
- Students can exit after any even semester and rejoin within 7 years.
- Certificates, Diplomas, or Degrees are awarded based on earned credits.
- Credit validity ranges from 2 to 4 years, depending on the exit qualification.
The University of Delhi has released a comprehensive notice regarding the application of the Multiple Entry and Multiple Exit (ME-ME) Scheme in its undergraduate courses.
This effort is included in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and corresponds with the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework (UGCF) 2022.
As per the announcement, undergraduate students at the university can now choose to exit their program after finishing any even semester and rejoin within a specified timeframe.
The program relies on an academic credit framework, in which one credit equals one hour of instruction or two hours of hands-on or fieldwork each week. An expectation of 1200 hours of learning annually is anticipated.
With the ME-ME system, students may earn an undergraduate certificate upon finishing the first year (Semester II) with 44 credits. After fulfilling two years (Semester IV) and obtaining 88 credits, they may receive an undergraduate diploma.
Students completing three years (Semester VI) with 132 credits will qualify for a bachelor's degree. Students who finish the entire four-year program (Semester VIII), earning 176 credits, can obtain a bachelor's degree with honors, honors with research, or honors with entrepreneurship, based on their selected academic track.
The university has also established guidelines for re-enrollment. Students who leave the programme can re-enroll in the same college and programme within a maximum of seven years, depending on the validity of credits previously obtained.
The validity of the credit spans from two to four years, contingent on the qualification obtained before exit. The notification contains comprehensive tables that describe situations for re-entry after leaving in the first, second, or third year.
For example, a student who leaves after their first year and comes back within three years can re-enter in the second year and ultimately obtain a four-year honours degree, as long as all necessary credits are completed.

Learners are encouraged to submit their applications early if they intend to leave before the next academic term begins. If a student departs during a session, the qualifications obtained up to the last finalized academic year will be acknowledged for the award.
The university stated that the vice chancellor will settle any disagreements or interpretation matters concerning these rules, and their decision will be conclusive. A distinct guideline for lateral admissions from different universities is anticipated to be released later.
This phase intends to make higher education more focused on students and accessible, allowing learners the freedom to shape their academic path based on their individual and career requirements.
