IIM Sambalpur Unveils Two New BSc Courses Aligned with NEP 2020

  • IIM Sambalpur launched two new BSc programs in Management & Public Policy and Data Science & AI.

IIM Sambalpur has introduced two new undergraduate programs, 'Bachelor of Science in Management and Public Policy' degree, and the 'Bachelor of Science in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence' degree which follows the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 guidelines.

The official announcement from the institute informs us that these new undergraduate degrees will cultivate and help students develop skills in data-analytics, critical-thinking, and analytical decision-making.

The BSc in Management and Public Policy has been designed to correspond with the nation’s wider goals regarding Sustainability, ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), and community-driven development. This course aims to equip individuals who can connect policy design with its execution at the community level. Entry into the program will be via the Common University Entrance Test (CUET).

Conversely, the BSc in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence aims to enhance the nation’s digital framework and global competitiveness. Created in partnership with major industry players, the course emphasizes ethical AI practices and provides students with enhanced technical skills for the future. Enrollment in this course will be approved via the JEE Main.

The institute indicated that the diverse approach of these new programs aims to cultivate leaders who can tackle intricate social and industrial challenges with empathy, creativity, and a worldwide perspective.

Applications for both programs are set to begin in June 2025, and the first cohort's classes are planned to start in September.

Addressing the event, Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal, the Director of IIM Sambalpur, stated, “We take immense pride in introducing the four-year fully residential Bachelor of Science (BSc) programme. This is a significant milestone in shaping leaders of the future. Guided by the National Education Policy 2020, our goal is to develop responsible individuals with an entrepreneurial mindset.”

He also clarified that the undergraduate programs are structured on a versatile academic framework that provides several exit and re-entry opportunities. Learners can receive a certificate upon finishing one year, a diploma after two years, a degree upon completing three years, and an honors degree after the fourth year.

Bramhanand Jha, PMP and Vice President of the National eGovernance Division within the Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY), Government of India commented, “India’s Global Capability Centres have evolved from being cost-effective outsourcing units to key innovation centres delivering strategic value to global businesses. As the world moves towards a digital-first economy, GCCs are becoming the backbone of adaptive, tech-driven and future-ready organisations.”

The event wrapped up with two distinct panel discussions featuring experienced academics and industry specialists. Subjects covered were ‘Transforming Operations through GCCs: The Digital Shift from Cost Efficiency to Strategic Value’ and ‘Aligning Talent Upskilling with Policy Innovation for Sustainable GCC Growth’.
