IP University Announces Orphan Quota With Full Fee Waiver for 2025

  • IPU to introduce an orphan quota with fee waiver from 2025-26.
  • New programs: PhD for professionals, lateral MBA, BEd (Special Ed), foreign languages.
  • Narela campus and Indian Knowledge Center to launch soon.

The Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (IPU), after receiving approvals by the Academic Council, will incorporate a quota for orphan children in its programs, starting in the 2025-26 academic session.

The orphan quota will reserve one more seat in each School/Program for orphaned individuals, in addition to the Single Girl Child quota (which was introduced last year). It will also provide selected candidates with a 100% fee waiver in accordance with the university’s EWS scheme

Vice Chancellor Padma Shri Prof (Dr) Mahesh Verma stated that the effort demonstrates IPU's commitment to inclusive education, and specifically wishes to help the orphan children impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic (or other circumstances).

He mentioned that the university will try to secure financial assistance from government schemes. IPU will be among the first universities in India to implement such a quota and hopes to provide more info to stakeholders via guidelines posted on the university website soon.

The Academic Council considered additional initiatives that included a PhD for working professionals, lateral admission in MBA (Fire and Industrial Safety), and certificate courses in Spanish and other foreign languages.

New academic programs noted will include a five-year BA-MA in Philosophy, a four-year BEd (Special Education) in three disciplines, and a Post-MSc Diploma in Radiological Physics. The university plans to set up an In-Situ Center for Indian Knowledge System and Technology Innovation, and the Narela campus will soon launch MSc Microbiology and other programs.
