Maruti Suzuki Launches New JIM in Sonipat for Skill Training

  • New JIM to train 100+ youth yearly in motor, welding, and fitting trades.
  • The program blends classroom and hands-on training in real factory setups.
  • Initiative supports Indo-Japan goal to skill 30,000 Indian youth.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has announced that registrations are open for its first batch at the Japan-India Institute for Manufacturing (JIM), which has recently opened. This is the automobile industry's 4th JIM in India and its second in Haryana.

The institute is located at the Master Atul Government ITI in Sonipat, and it intends to enroll more than 100 students each year. Students will learn in four primary trades: Mechanic Motor Vehicle (MMV), Machinist, Welder, and Fitter.

First batch classes are projected to start in September 2025. Maruti Suzuki has invested above Rs 10 crore in the setup. The JIM is a member of the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) and is certified by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), and it intends to check a dual training system.

This method integrates theoretical classroom learning with practical industrial training, featuring modules on safety, quality, discipline, kaizen, and other vital Japanese manufacturing techniques.

Gaurav Gautam, Haryana's Minister of State for Youth Empowerment & Entrepreneurship, commended Maruti Suzuki for its role in the economic growth of the state.

He said, "Maruti Suzuki's commitment to skill development in Haryana through its state-of-the-art JIMs at Uncha Majra and now at Sonipat is truly commendable."

Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer of Corporate Affairs at Maruti Suzuki, highlighted the organization's dedication to skill enhancement.

"We are confident JIM Sonipat will enhance employability and instill a disciplined work ethic rooted in world-class manufacturing standards," he said.

The initiative is a result of public-private collaboration where the Haryana government contributed land and infrastructure, whereas Maruti Suzuki enhanced the facilities, implemented realistic simulation assembly lines, and will manage the institute's operations.

The JIMs represent a wider Indo-Japanese partnership focused on educating 30,000 Indians in a decade. Since its establishment, more than 2,100 students have completed their studies at Maruti Suzuki's current JIMs.

Maruti Suzuki has aided 23 ITIs, set up 31 Automobile Skill Enhancement Centres, and invested more than Rs 450 crore in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts as part of its extensive skill development programs up to Financial Year 2024-25.
