Budget 2026-27: Panel to Align Education With Jobs

  • Budget 2026-27 proposes Education-Employment panel.
  • Aligns education with jobs; assesses AI impact.
  • Targets 10% global services share by 2047.

In the Union Budget 2026, 27, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman unveiled a high, powered 'Education to Employment and Enterprise' Standing Committee to fit India's education system with the requirements of the job market and at the same time make the services sector one of the major drivers of economic growth for Viksit Bharat.

The committee will focus on measures to maximise the growth, employment, and exports of the services economy. It will also identify high, potential priority areas and assess the impact of new technologies, especially artificial intelligence, on jobs and skills so that the right policy responses can be suggested.

A key long, term ambition unveiled is to make India the leading services country in the world with a target of reaching 10 per cent share in the global services market by 2047. The move is intended to take India beyond being just a "back, office" country to a centre of high, end services, care and innovation that is competitive and creates sustainable jobs.

The initiative shows the government's emphasis on connecting education and employability, which is especially important due to fast technological developments such as AI that could make some traditional jobs obsolete. Through more collaboration between academic institutions, industry, and businesses, the committee seeks to create a pool of skilled workers who will be adaptable to the future needs of the economy and at the same time enhance the contribution of the services sector to exports and the GDP.

This idea is one of the many measures included in the budget that are aimed at enabling the youth to realize their potential through reforms in the structures of education, skilling, and employment generation. This is to make sure that India takes advantage of its demographic dividend to achieve inclusive and high, value growth.
