University of East London Inks Pact for Indian Student Welfare

- UEL and NISAU UK sign a first-of-its-kind deal to support Indian students’ welfare and career success
- Framework covers guidance from pre-arrival to post-graduation
- Strengthens education and skills ties under India-UK Vision 2035
The University of East London (UEL) together with the National Indian Students and Alumni Union (NISAU) UK has put in place an agreement of great significance that will promote the welfare, career prospects, and overall success of Indian students in the UK.
The University of East London has signed a student welfare agreement to enhance Indian student welfare, marking a major step in international student support. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which was signed at UEL's Stratford campus, is the first UK university collaboration across the domain of education and student welfare.
Professor Amanda Broderick stated, "Internationally mobile Indian students make a hugely positive contribution to UEL and the wider UK community. Our collaboration with NISAU builds on UEL’s long-standing partnerships across India — from our research and innovation collaborations to our growing alumni network and our pioneering India Industry Advisory Board — all focused on preparing students for global success".
The collaboration creates a supportive environment that begins with Indian students' arrival and stays all the way through their graduation. There will be support in the form of practical guidance and a whole range of initiatives aimed at being inclusive.
This UEL partnership strengthens India UK education ties, promoting better experiences for Indian students abroad in UK universities India and higher education UK programs, according to UK education news.
The agreement is especially significant considering that UEL is home to about 5% of all Indian students in the UK and thus is expected to provide a template for the best practices in international student involvement.

The partnership of UEL with prominent employers such as Tata Consultancy Services, Cognizant, HSBC, Tech Mahindra, and Infosys will support the project in getting the graduates ready for the job market through skill pathways that will be created together.
Sanam Arora, who signed the MoU as NISAU UK Chair said, "Together, we will work to ensure Indian students and graduates not only achieve academically but also feel a true sense of belonging during their time in the UK. This partnership reflects NISAU’s broader mission to build a globally respected framework for student welfare and employability — one that can be adopted by institutions around the world as the next phase of international education collaboration".
She added, "Aligned with the ambitions of the India-UK Vision 2035, it strengthens the people-to-people pillar of our nations’ partnership — turning that vision into practical action that empowers students, enhances skills, and deepens collaboration across education and innovation".
The cooperation is also in line with the India-UK Vision 2035 which, among other things, places education and skills right at the top of the bilateral relationship's priorities.
NISAU UK noted, "Together, UEL and NISAU aim to set a new benchmark for global student engagement and international collaboration, contributing to the strength of the India–UK educational partnership and the shared goal of inclusive, future-focused education".
UEL outlined its current projects aimed at India, such as the Sugarcrete school-building project paediatric health care program and the ORNATE India and Naandi Foundation partnership near Delhi, and the MoU signing took place at the same time as the India-UK Achievers Honours 2026 launch at the House of Lords, where Indian change makers educated in the UK were celebrated.
