IIM Vizag, 18 NITs & IIITs Launch PGPMCI Program

  • Engineering students earn a diploma, and later complete MBA without appearing for CAT.
  • The program blends technical expertise with managerial skills for strong industry readiness.
  • IIIT Senapati joins; students gain internships, start-up support, and career advantage.

The Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam (IIMV) has collaborated with 18 NITs and IIITs throughout India to introduce a modular MBA program known as the Post-Graduate Programme in Management for Centrally Funded Technical Institutions and Institutions of National Importance (PGPMCI).

The program allows engineering students to earn a one-year diploma in business management from IIMV while simultaneously completing their BTech or M.Tech degrees. After finishing, students have the option to pursue a second year in hybrid format to obtain a complete MBA degree without needing to take the CAT exam.

Founded on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, PGPMCI seeks to develop techno-managerial skills in line with changing industry requirements. Partner organizations comprise NIT Warangal, NIT Tadepalligudem, IIIT Kurnool, IIIT Senapati, among others.

The most recent addition is IIIT Senapati, Manipur, via a formal MoU. IIMV director Prof M Chandrasekhar stated that IIM Vizag provides preferential internship opportunities for PGPMCI participants, enhancing experiential learning.

"By enrolling in this programme alongside their engineering studies, students will cultivate a unique techno-managerial mindset, blending technical expertise with management skills. This dual approach equips students not only to respond to technical questions from recruiters but also to confidently address business and strategic challenges during placements, providing them with a distinct competitive advantage," said Prof Chandrasekhar.

Prof. Krishnan Baskar, Director of IIIT Senapati, showed excitement regarding the partnership, emphasizing the increasing interest among students in seeking management education. "PGPMCI is particularly valuable as it enables students to combine technical knowledge with managerial skills early in their careers. Opportunities such as start-up grants would provide graduates with a distinct competitive edge in the job market," said Prof Baskar.
